3:40 PM The Environmental Approval Process: Dredging Disposal and How to Maintain a Sustainable Environment
The environmental effects of dredging are generally related to the process itself, as well as the disposal of material. Depending upon where dredging takes place, a marine can be affected by the disposal of the dredged material and result in plumes that are carried further in-shore. This is in part based upon weather conditions and the location of the dredging. However, due to technology developments and research, marine ports have found environmentally sustainable ways to dispose of these materials.
- Learn to thoroughly assess and mitigate environmental impacts
- Relocate dredged material and recognise it as a resource to dispose sustainably
- Evaluate the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of sediments to determine potential dredging methods and treatment options
